We can talk about discrimination all we want and people will choose to ignore it. What people never seem to ignore, however, are the facts. Below you'll find demographics on discrimination so as to better understand its presence in our media.
Award Shows
These award shows and many others serve the purpose of rewarding and recognizing the best men and women in their field. Though some argue that the fact that the majority of winners are Caucasian is purely coincidental, it is still a poor reflection of the way we see and perceive talent. These statistics can have a negative affect on our society, encouraging segregation and discouragement among young people of color who have the hopes of making it big someday. This isn't the type of behavior and segregation of talent we'd like to encourage to the youth of today.
Movies and television
This info-graph above shows how the Sci-Fi genre lacks diversity in the film industry. Not only does it lack diversity in race, but also in the LGBTQQ Community, and people with disabilities.
Diversity in television is seen to be low in this chart showing races and genders of TV show directors. The majority have been Caucasian males, with minority males almost 60% behind.
