Sexism
Sexism has always been an issue in the media. Reporters may use harsh or demeaning words to describe a person of the opposite sex in the situation they're reporting on whether it be a man or a woman.
One story happened just recently towards the chief prosecutor, Marilyn Mosby, of the Baltimore case of Freddie Gray in an article regarding her address to the final verdict. In an article written by Christian Datoc for the Daily Caller, he stated:
"Throughout the presser, the 35-year-old prosecutor managed to maintain a fiery, authoritative demeanor AND flashed some serious "crazy girl" eyes, a combination which -- if truth be told -- I found incredibly sexy"

"I wouldn't mind being unrestrained in the back of Ms. Mosby's paddy wagon" -Christian Datoc
This comment, though it may seem harmless to Datoc, can be seen as degrading and disrespectful to Mosby and other female prosecutors. These words imply that Datoc feels that she is only an object of sex, and not a serious lawyer as she truly is.
the lgbt community
A hot topic in the US right now is the argument on gay marriage. Today, a popular form of entertainment is the reality tv show. These shows have a large influence on those who watch them as the people on them seem to have an 'ideal' or 'just like me, but famous' lifestyle. These shows may express their political, religious, and even home values with the rest of the world on television. The Duggars, a family from the popular TLC show "19 Kids And Counting", has made known the way they feel about the LGBTQQ Community. The family has gone so far as to discussing it in many interviews and sometimes even on their show. Recently, they've helped pass an Anti-LGBT bill in their hometown by donating $10,000 to the cause. They continuously post on their social media sites discouraging same-sex couples and transgenders. The Duggars are allowed to have their own beliefs and opinions. However, knowing how much power they have being a popular family, their words and actions should be thought about clearly so as to not offend any viewers or fans.
Jim Duggar, the father of 19, described their feelings like this:
Jim Duggar, the father of 19, described their feelings like this:
"We still love everyone as Christ commands, we still have compassion, we still have those kinds of feelings, but we also have our convictions. We have our beliefs.”
Radio
Radio seems to be a type of media often forgotten in our society. Because of its' faceless appearance, many would think that discrimination doesn't happen in radio. However, radio personality, Troy West gave his inside view of how radio coincides with discrimination.
"Let me speak about media discrimination in radio. I do believe that Talk Radio leans very right wing. There are some very successful conservative talk show hosts who are not only informing their listener base but they are considered highly entertaining as well. They have done a great job of promoting and building an audience over many years. Larger audience translates into added revenue for the broadcast companies because they can charge more for advertising. Liberal Talk radio hosts have had less success. For different reasons, very few hosts have caught on with audiences like their conservative counter-parts. The problem is, they have a harder time building a listener base and their show ratings have not been that impressive. When ratings go down, so does revenue. Perhaps, they do not come across as entertaining as Rush Limbaugh. Radio's audience is getting older as younger people who might align more with a liberal philosophy do not spend as much time with radio. I think that Television news is more liberal slanted and radio news and talk is slanted to a more conservative side" -Troy West
